SmartHire is a Western Canadian firm committed
to bringing Career Seekers and Prairie employers together.
In order to achieve this objective, we collect, store
and use personal information collected through SmartHire® via our Web
site, e-mail, facsimile, or telephone in order to assist you with your
career search. Please read the following Privacy Policy to make an informed
decision to either grant or deny your consent to our collection, storage
and use of your personal data. This policy last modified on: April 26, 2008
1. What information is collected from me?
When registering as a Career Seeker on the SmartHire® web site, you will
be asked to provide personal and non-personal data, including contact
information, employment profiles, resumes, and cover letters, through
the use of online forms. SmartHire® may occasionally request that Career
Seekers provide additional information through questionnaires, release
forms, references, psychometric assessments, or other means. SmartHire®
will always request permission from the Career Seekers before collecting
any personal data, and will not collect, store, or transmit this information
without permission.
2. What information is collected about me from
third parties?
Through SmartHire®'s reference checking procedures, information is collected
about you from work-related and personal references that you have provided
to us. If you have been short-listed for a particular vacancy, a standard
reference check is performed in order to further qualify you for the
position. SmartHire® reserves the right to contact your former employers
as listed on your resume. These individuals may not be listed as references;
however, they will be able to provide valuable input as to your competencies.
If you are currently employed and do not want to be contacted at your
workplace, please inform SmartHire® and we will respect your request.
In some circumstances, SmartHire® will contract a third
party to perform a background check on a selected short-listed candidate.
All candidates requiring background checks are made aware of this request
and must give their personal authorization before SmartHire® will proceed.
You may deny this request; however, such a denial will result in your
removal from the competition.
3. How will SmartHire® use my personal information?
SmartHire®'s sole purpose in collecting personal data from Career Seekers
is to better match Career Seekers with employment opportunities. To
this end, SmartHire® may use the information that comprises your Profile,
including your resume and contact information, in a number of ways:
- SmartHire® may use your contact information to contact
you regarding your Profile, or other information gathered from you.
- SmartHire® may examine your Profile to determine
eligibility for employment opportunities that arise through our Executive
Search program, as well as other career opportunities posted on the SmartHire® career
site.
- Career Seekers profiles will always be made
visible to employers who receive an online application from you.
Other information, such as psychometric assessments,
questionnaire responses, and employer references, will only be made
available with your express consent to those employers considering you
for a position.
4. Does SmartHire® collect any non-personal information
from me?
Yes, SmartHire® collects geographic information (such as your province
of residence) for the purpose of promotion on our website. We display
aggregate data such as the provincial breakdown of listed Career Seekers
registered with our company. This information is non-personal and is
intended to give potential employers a general idea of the geographic
location of Career Seekers registered with SmartHire®.
5. How long does SmartHire® store my personal data?
The length of time that SmartHire stores your personal data is dependent
upon your level of activity with our company. Our database is refreshed
every three months and those who have not returned documents sent to
them or those who have had no contact with SmartHire® since submitting
their resume may be removed from our records. Those individuals that
have returned all documents sent to them and who wish to be continually
alerted of opportunities that suit their skills will remain in our system
unless they specifically request to be removed.
SmartHire® does not collect personal or non-personal
data from any individuals that do not possess Canadian citizenship.
As such, any correspondence from non-Canadian citizen Career Seekers
is not saved or recorded.
SmartHire® reserves the right to remove Career Seekers'
profiles from our database at any time, for any reason, without notice.
6. How can I access, update, or delete my information?
Your resume and profile in our online database can be viewed or updated
any time through the SmartHire® website at www.smarthire.ca. If you
experience any difficulty in accessing or updating this information,
or you wish to have your account, and all associated information deleted,
please contact SmartHire® support at support@smarthire.ca
or 1-888-778-0570.
You can access other data stored by SmartHire® by calling
1-888-773-7884 and asking a SmartHire® representative to forward this
information to you via e-mail, facsimile or regular mail. To update
or delete this information, please contact us by phone at 1-888-773-7884,
by fax at 1-877-778-6403, or by e-mail at info@smarthire.ca.
Psychometric assessment data access is limited to
a single-page report that you may request. Full assessment details are
not available to the individual due to access rights granted to the
purchaser of the assessment (hiring employer). Reference check data
is not available to the individual work seeker because SmartHire® has
assured each reference that only the prospective employer will be privy
to information gathered during a reference check.
7. Privacy Policy changes.
This Policy may be changed at SmartHire®'s discretion without any prior
notice or liability to you or any other person. New versions of this
Policy are posted on the Web Site, or are available by contacting us.
Your continued use of the Web Site subsequent to any changes to this
Policy signifies that you consent to the collection, use and disclosure
of your personal information in accordance with the changed Policy.
Accordingly, when you use the Web Site check the date of this Policy
and review any changes since the last version. |
